Why I chose Advocate Lutheran General Hospital:
I chose Lutheran because it felt like a good fit for me. After rotating here as a fourth year medical student, I knew it was a program where I would not only receive an excellent education but also feel at home. The residents were enthusiastic and welcoming and shared my same academic and personal interests. Additionally, I found the attendings to be extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to resident education. The smaller size of the program allows for individual attention and guidance. I knew that this was a residency program that could provide me with the skill set to become a highly competent physician and have a great time in the process.
What is it like being a resident here?
So far, my experience at Lutheran has been everything I had expected. The cohesiveness of the residents, attendings and other staff is definitely apparent. The structure of the program allows for the ideal mix of autonomy and supervision. Didactic time is protected and the lectures are excellent and very interactive. The hospital has 3 separate units (one for child/ adolescent, adult and geriatric patients) and this variation provides for a unique learning experience. I am truly looking forward to the next four years of my life at this program.
Interests and Hobbies
I enjoy spending my free time participating in activities that are active and creative. My idea of a perfect summer would include traveling, scuba diving, mountain biking and hiking. If it's winter, I love to spend my free time skiing. And... if I still have extra time after that, I would spend it drawing and playing the piano and guitar. In the future I hope to master the art of cooking and learn how to sail. My professional interests include mood disorders, emergency psychiatry, neuropsychiatry and forensics.
