online childbirth education

This new online childbirth education class provides a convenient alternative for pregnant women and support persons who cannot attend a conventional class due to time constraints, bed rest or scheduling conflicts. At your own pace, learn what to expect from the 3rd trimester of pregnancy through 6 weeks after the birth of your baby.

The series includes:

  • Signs and stages of labor
  • Lamaze style breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Overview of breastfeeding, medication options, care of mom and baby after birth
  • Emotional and physical changes during pregnancy
  • Postpartum depression
  • Ability to receive answers to your childbirth education-related questions

This interactive, web-based program also includes animated illustrations and video. To optimize your viewing experience, your computer needs to have the most current version of Adobe Flash, high speed internet and sound capability. (Dial-up will work, but it will take longer to download.)

When you have the access code and the accompanying book called Joy of Motherhood, you can begin when you are ready. Once you start the program, you will have 60 days to complete the education series.

*It is recommended that you complete this childbirth education series 1 month before your due date.

Choosing a doctor

  • Pediatrician - physician specialist focused on the physical, emotional, and social health of children from birth through adolescence, with the primary focus on preventive health care.  They spend three years in a pediatric residency program.
  • Family Practice - must complete 3 years of residency after medical school.  They train in pediatrics and several other areas such as internal medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology.  Because they train in many areas, family physicians are qualified to care for patients of all ages; therefore the whole family would be able to see the same doctor from birth throught adulthood.
