Senior Advocate

The Senior Advocate program offers many benefits to its members, including:

  • Insurance/Financial Counseling-A Senior Advocate counselor can provide assistance with processing all of your medical paperwork. We are also available to answer your questions about benefits and help you review your options regarding Medicare and supplemental insurances to allow you to make choices that are best for you.
  • Free Monthly Blood Pressure Screenings-Screenings are available the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. - Noon. No appointment necessary.
  • Discounted Fitness Center Membership-All seniors (age 65 and older) are eligible to receive a discounted membership to the Lutheran General Fitness Center.
  • Educational Seminars and Health Fairs-Periodic seminars on a variety of topics related to your health and personal safety.
  • Discounts-Enjoy discounts on meals at Lutheran General Hospital Top Deck Cafeteria and on purchases made at The Flower Shop in Parkside Center.
  • Annual Flu Shot Program-Each Fall, Lutheran General Hospital hosts a flu shot program for seniors and other high-risk adults. Call the Flu Shot Hotline at 1.800.995.4267 for updates on registration and appointments.
  • Transportation Service-This service is available to Lutheran General Hospital and other related sites. Cost is $5 each way. Must live in local suburban area.

To become a Senior Advocate member, fill out the enrollment form. You may either submit the form online or print and fill out a copy and mail it to:

Older Adult Services

Older Adult Services offers the following benefits:

  • Information Referral-A master level social worker is available to help you access hospital and community resources throughout the Chicago area. Information is also available on programs across the United States for those caregivers whose relatives are not living close to them.
  • Adult Day Care-A safe, secure and stimulating environment for adults and older adults who, because of physical or cognitive disabilities, require assistance during the day. Registered nurse, social workers and recreational therapist on staff. Medication monitoring and distribution as well as other nursing care provided. Intergenerational programs, pet and music therapy, exercises, reminiscing and creative arts are some of the programs. Transportation offered within service area. Funding opportunities are available.
  • Home Delivered Meals-A support service which provides a nutritious hot meal to homebound elderly or handicapped individuals who cannot prepare their own meals. A free home assessment is done by Older Adult service staff.
  • Geriatric Assessment-An assessment performed by master level counselors to help determine cognitive and functional abilities.
  • Consultation-Short-term crisis intervention consisting of one to three interviews to help families experiencing concerns with elderly family.
  • Counseling-Provides emotional relief and support to older adults and/or caregivers. These sessions help restore or improve social and psychological functioning. They provide coping skills for caregivers and help effect changes in behavior, attitudes and feelings.
  • Support Groups-Caregiver support groups meet monthly at the Adult Day Care Center.
  • Memory Workshops-a workshop given to stimulate the mind. Staff encourages active participation by all attendees. A notebook of mentally stimulating activities is given to all who attend.
  • Caregiving Classes-Designed to assist caregivers with ways to reduce stress while providing care for their loved ones. Caregivers are given tools to increase their abilities and confidence. Resources are made available for respite.
  • Emergency Response Units (Lifeline)-A security system for those home alone, who have health risks or concerns, that calls for help with the push of a button. This system provides 24 hour assistance. For more information and to enroll, click on the link or call 847.296.0737.
