The Fund Advisory Council identified seven priority areas that will guide initial funding efforts. In all of these areas, health disparities exist between the fund communities and the City of Chicago as a whole. To receive funding, all proposed programs currently must address one or more of these priority areas:
School Dropout: The school dropout rate at age 16 in the Fund Communities is 20.2% to 36.5% higher than the Chicago rate.
HIV/AIDS: The prevalence of AIDS in the Fund Communities is 17.9% 10 183.4% higher than the Chicago rate.
Diabetes: The age-adjusted death rate due to Diabetes Mellitus in the Fund Communities is 73.3% higher than the Chicago rate.
Homicide: The age-adjusted death rate due to assault (homicide) in the Fund Communities is 101.0% higher than the Chicago rate.
Infant Mortality: The infant mortality rate in the Fund Communities is 67% higher than Chicago's rate.
Unemployment: The unemployment rate among the civilian population of 16 and over in the Fund Communities is 36% to 155% higher than the Chicago rate.
Teen Births: The percent of births to teens in the Fund Communities is from 48.9% to 98.5% higher than the Chicago rate.
