With the help of philanthropy, Christ Medical Center is creating a new inpatient oncology unit.
The unit will offer private rooms with accommodation for a family member to stay overnight with the patient. The goal is to provide a healing, therapeutic environment with features that have been demonstrated by scientific research to reduce stress, speed healing, and promote spirituality are evidenced. The unit incorporates many features patients have requested to enhance their healing experience:
A music system with music personally chosen by the patient
A television, DVD player and wireless internet access to make the patient and family time at the hospital more comfortable
A small refrigerator in each room for patients' and family members' preferred food items
Art, music and pet therapies offered as treatment for the soul
A quiet room available for meditation
A television channel offering the patient 7-day/24-hour access to relaxation and visual imagery to facilitate pain management
