The institution provides residents with a very competitive salary and benefits package allowing resident to give full attention to their educational responsibilities:

*Chief residents are given an additional $4,000 stipend/year and ** Fellows are given an additional $3,000 stipend/year.

ALGH: Administration has always stated that our stipend would be at or above the mean. Residents consistently receive a 3% increase in their stipend.

Conference/Education Time

PGY I residents are entitled to $250 of educational allowance per year. PGY II and above residents and fellows are entitled to one week (5 days) of conference or education time and $750 educational allowance per year.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is available to residents with a choice of a HMO or a traditional plan.

Disability Compensation/Worker's Compensation

Disability compensation is provided by the Hospital's disability insurance plan. Worker's compensation coverage is provided as stated under Illinois law.

Food Allowance

All residents/fellows who provide in-house call receive $1000/year for food allowance.

Health Care Benefits

Residents and fellows, their spouses, and their children are entitled to health care benefits as follows:

Residents can choose between the Humana Premier HMO and the CoreSource PPO with $250, $500, or $1,000 deductible.

The HMO covers 100% of eligible charges after a co-payment. There are no deductible amounts to pay or claim forms to file.

The PPO covers 80% of an in network provider, 60% of out of network providers of all eligible charges. Residents must satisfy the annual deductible and co-insurance amounts before benefits begin for all services except prescription drugs. Co-insurance costs incurred at Advocate hospitals for inpatient care, outpatient surgery, outpatient non-surgical care, and emergency room facility charges will be waived.

Life Insurance

All full-time residents and fellows are eligible for basic life insurance (two times their annual salary) and accidental and dismemberment insurance.

Malpractice Insurance

The Hospital provides professional malpractice liability insurance coverage for hospital related activities to residents and fellows.

Retirement Plan

Advocate's 401 (k) Plan provides the opportunity to fund for retirement with pre-tax dollars. Advocate automatically enrolls new associates at 3%, and matching contributions begin immediately. Advocate's matching contribution is $0.50 for each dollar contributed. Associates have the flexibility to elect to contribute from 0% to 50% of eligible pay once they receive their retirement enrollment materials in the mail. The maximum Advocate contribution is 3% based on your contribution. The plan provides 12 different investment options, and participants receive quarterly personalized statements showing account balances.

Sick Time

Residents are entitled to 12 sick days per year. Sick time does not rollover from year to year.

Unpaid Leave of Absence (Maternity/Paternity Benefit)

Residents are eligible for a leave of absence for personal or medical reasons in accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act and in conjunction with Hospital policy.

Vacation and Holiday Time

Vacation time and holidays are grouped together and referred to as Paid Time Off (PTO). PTO does not accumulate from year to year. At ALGH residents receive a total of fifteen (15) vacation days, three (3) personal days, plus six (6) legal holidays.

Resident Retreat

One day per year residents are excuses from all clinical activities and engage in team building activities.

Lab coat cleaning service

The hospital provides dry-cleaning service for residents at no charge.
