Advocate Bethany Hospital's Cardio-Respiratory Department specializes in the treatment, control, testing and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the process of breathing and/or ventilation and the cardiac system. Cardiology and Respiratory services are provided for registered patients twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven days a week and outpatients five days a week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Scope of Care: The department provides care to adult and geriatric patients. Services include assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients with pulmonary impairment and assessment of the treatment effectiveness.
Complexity of Patients: Care is delivered to patients with asthma, COPD, respiratory failure, CHF, MI, and other diseases that affect the cardiac and pulmonary systems.
Services provided: Testing includes arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing, EKG's, Echocardiogram and Doppler flow studies. Services include: ventilator management, airway management, bronchodilator therapy (nebulizer therapy, BIPAP and MDI therapy), chest physiology therapy, postural drainage, peak flow monitoring, patient/family education and incentive spirometry.
