Midwest Heart Specialists integrate with Advocate Medical Group

Oak Brook, Ill., January 11, 2012 – Midwest Heart Specialists, the largest independent cardiology practice in Illinois with 50 physicians, has integrated with Advocate Medical Group (AMG), one of the state’s largest medical groups.  Now known as “Midwest Heart Specialists-Advocate Medical Group,” the cardiologists will continue to provide clinical services in the same locations and hospitals where they currently practice.  The physicians have multiple locations in and around Rockford, Ill., and Chicago’s western and northwest suburbs.

“Midwest Heart Specialists-Advocate Medical Group is poised to expand cardiology services for our patients in Northern and Central Illinois, said James Dan, M.D., FACP, president of AMG. “We are bringing together some of the best cardiology experts in the country to offer heart patients exceptional care.  Together we are making great strides to improve heart health in the communities we serve.”

“Aligning with AMG allows us to continue our growth and continue to build on the excellent reputation both organizations have established,” said Vincent Bufalino, M.D., senior vice president of cardiovascular services for Advocate Health Care and former chairman and CEO of Midwest Heart Specialists.  “Our patients benefit from this collaboration in that we will be providing advanced care in terms of new technology and, on the screening and prevention side, we are looking to detect problems early and solving them with proven treatment methods.”

AMG is a part of Advocate Health Care, recognized as one of the nation’s top 10 health systems. Advocate treats more hearts than any other health system in the state. This union with Midwest Heart Specialists expands Advocate’s patient base through AMG. Midwest Heart Specialists already participates in Advocate’s nationally recognized Clinical Integration Program. Known for efficiently and effectively delivering outstanding coordinated health care with better patient outcomes, Advocate’s Clinical Integration Program aligns with the Accountable Care Organization model, which focuses on achieving both cost and quality improvements through coordinated and collaborative patient care.
