Bringing the best to the community around us.
At Advocate Good Shepherd, we combine the family-oriented feeling of a community hospital with the major resources of a medical center. The result is a health care environment that is one of the very best.
We want to be involved, and we want you to be involved. That's why we offer so many ways to make a difference. From more time with your patients and coworkers to a bevy of community events, chances are you'll find the perfect opportunity to do something amazing.
Below are just a few examples of our commitment to the community.
In collaboration with the Lake County Health Department, we offer monthly immunization clinics at the Foglia YMCA in Lake Zurich. The clinic provided over one thousand immunizations during 2006 alone for families who may otherwise not be able to afford to immunize their children. It's continued to be a growing success since.
We were a major sponsor of Operation Click. This partnership between local and state police, the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, area high schools, and businesses rewards teens and their schools for high levels of seat belt use.
Advocate Good Shepherd provides sponsorship to the Gimme Shelter walk/run, which benefits the McHenry County PADS program.
Day of Sharing
More than 200 people attended the 6th Annual Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness sponsored by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Oncology Services. Day of Sharing is a national program of locally planned, volunteer-based, self-supporting community events designed to educate and encourage those affected by breast cancer. This event offered seminars addressing research, treatment, and coping techniques for breast cancer.
Our Senior Advocate program provides a host of services for our elderly community and patients. They include:
- Low-cost medical transportation services from a senior's home to Good Shepherd Hospital campus.
- Information and referrals to hospital and community services for older adults and their families.
- Free lectures and seminars that provide programs on health promotion, disease prevention, and AARP Driver Safety classes to help seniors refine their driving skills.
- Health clinics, such as the Senior Advocate yearly flu shot program, providing flu shots to seniors and high-risk adults.
- Participation in senior fairs and expos throughout Lake and McHenry Counties.
Relay for Life Sponsor
The American Cancer Society fundraising event includes teams that participate in an overnight walking relay and a moving remembrance ceremony in Barrington and Lake Zurich.
American Heart Walk
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital joins joined other companies in the American Heart Walk. This 3.5-mile or one-mile walk took place at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.
A quiet village in the heart of horse country-Barrington offers a lifestyle that is second to none.
The village of Barrington has such unique character that, in Chicago, the name "Barrington" is actually synonymous with the lifestyle. People recognize the village for its unique architecture, outstanding schools, and of course, for horses.
Established in 1863, the village has a traditional downtown business and retail district. No malls or warehouses or big boxes here. Small shops and restaurants fit right into the historic nature of the downtown area. Within the village you'll discover older homes featuring classic architecture-from Cape Cods to striking Victorians. A commuter rail line runs from the city to downtown Chicago, and with shopping right in the neighborhood, you hardly need a car. In the outlying areas of the village, you'll find larger estate homes giving you a choice of lifestyles.
In addition to quality schools, Barrington features a park district that offers a public golf course, picnic sites, playgrounds, a family aquatic center, and tennis courts.
