Summer Nursing Program.
Our summer nursing program is designed for nursing students who would like a broad overview of hospital nursing. Each student spends at least one or two days on each inpatient nursing unit and some ancillary units working with a nurse and a NCT.
If you're accepted into the program - positions are limited - you'll use your basic nursing care technician skills as you develop throughout the summer. The program lasts a total of 12 weeks, approximately 10 weeks are completing the entire rotation and the last 2 are your choice of areas you wish to return to for more experience.
Throughout the summer program you will meet weekly with your manager to discuss and evaluate progress and the overall experience. There is a potential for further employment in the NCT float pool after completing the summer program.
Applicants must have completed at least one hospital clinical experience prior to the start of the summer program, and hold a current CPR certification. Positions are limited.

We offer three programs with Maine East High School.
We're working closely with Maine East to help future healthcare professionals prepare for a successful career. We currently have three very different partnerships - two are for the general student population and the third is for students in the Special Needs program.
Nursing Care Technician partnership.
Clinical educators from the Advocate Center for Education and Development teach the class at the hospital. It is available only to second semester seniors who will be eighteen years old by the start date of the course. Students are guaranteed employment at the hospital as a Nursing Care Technician after the successful completion of the course. We also provide a tuition reimbursement program for students to assist them in the pursuit of a nursing degree.
The HERO Program.
Our Transportation Department hires four High School students that are either Juniors or Seniors as Transportation Aides. These four students are employed and paid by the Transportation Department until the school year. Although there is no job guarantee after the student has completed their HERO Program, students can apply for a Transportation Aide position at the completion of the program.
This program allows students with special needs an opportunity to gain real life work experience in one of many departments within the hospital. Students work two hours a day, Monday through Friday during the school year and are supervised by a ""Job Coach"". The goal for this program is to hire minimally one student per year into a permanent position in the system.
Advocate Lutheran General is committed to continuing these partnerships as well as fostering new ones. We feel that these partnerships benefit our hospital by exposing students to Health Care opportunities and also benefit the school district by offering a more diverse curriculum.
