Common orthopedic and neurological conditions treated with physical therapy include:

It can also be used to treat chronic wounds and burns.

Advocate BroMenn Medical Center's services also include specialized treatment programs:

Lymphedema Management
We offer physical therapists and physical therapist assistants trained in lymphedema management who use a variety of methods to reduce swelling and other symptoms of lymphedema. Treatment includes manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, and exercise. Therapy helps prevent infection and promotes patient management and responsibility.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
The muscles of the pelvic floor serve a few unique functions. They are responsible for holding internal organs inside, closing the valves of the bladder and bowel to ensure continence, and for part of sexual function.  People may experience pelvic floor problems at any age.

Specialty trained physical therapists can treat pelvic floor dysfunction. Treatment may include:

  • Education about your muscles, ligaments, and habits
  • Bladder retraining
  • Exercise to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor
  • Simple dietary modifications to stop bladder/bowel irritation

Aquatic Therapy
By taking advantage of the buoyant force of water, our aquatic therapy pool will eliminate up to 90 percent of an individual’s body weight.  Hydrostatic pressure promotes the healing and strengthening of injured tissue by reducing joint stiffness, decreasing swelling, and lowering blood pressure levels.  Cardiovascular stamina, muscle toning, and flexibility are also improved by the resistance that water provides.  This, in conjunction with therapeutic warm water, allows for substantially decreased joint compression and pain.
