Advocate Christ Medical Center is a 695-bed, not-for-profit teaching, research and referral medical center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. It also is home to Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, one of the most comprehensive providers of pediatric care in the state. The medical center is a leader in cardiology, pediatrics, surgical services, oncology, women's services and emergency medicine. Christ Medical Center is part of Advocate Health Care, one of the nation's leading integrated health care systems.

Christ Medical Center has a medical staff of more than 900 physicians, representing more than 60 specialties and subspecialties. Among its benchmark services, the medical center offers complete medical and surgical services for pediatric patients. Nearly 4,000 babies are born at the medical center each year. As a state-designated Level III perinatal center, the highest designation, Christ Medical Center provides critically ill infants the assistance they need to begin and sustain life.

Advocate Hope Children's Hospital opened its doors in November 1996. The facility has 45 private inpatient rooms, a 15-bed pediatric intensive care unit and a nine-bed pediatric surgical heart unit. Hope Children's Hospital cares for more than 4,800 inpatients and registers more than 90,000 visits outpatients annually.

In addition to providing general and subspecialized pediatric care, Hope Children's Hospital offers programs in pediatric cardiology. The Heart Institute for Children, located on site, is staffed by world-renowned heart doctors who provide advanced medical and surgical care for newborns, infants and children. Christ Medical Center provides a full spectrum of adult cardiovascular services as well. The medical center's program leads Chicagoland in the number of patients served. Cardiac surgeons performed 1,319 adult and pediatric open heart surgeries in 2007.

Christ Medical Center also is a state-designated Level I trauma center, providing trauma patients with the most sophisticated emergency medical care. The emergency department treats more than 80,000 patients annually, including more trauma patients than any other Illinois hospital.

Magnet recognition - Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital became the first Advocate hospital to be awarded the American Nurse Credentialing Center's (ANCC) prestigious Magnet designation. This designation is the highest honor and level of recognition ANCC awards for excellence in nursing services. Magnet designation is the gold standard by which nursing and patient care is measured. The nurses at Christ Medical Center have achieved what few others in their profession have - only five percent of the estimated 6,000 hospitals in the United States have achieved Magnet designation for quality patient care and nursing excellence.
