Ann McKee MD will be the keynote speaker for Advocate Christ Medical Center's annual A Day With Your Brain to be held in the Advocate Christ Medical Center Auditorium on May 11, hosted by the Neurosciences Institute. Dr. McKee is the physician conducting a study on the brain of former Chicago Bears football player, Dave Deurson, who just recently died and was confirmed to be suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
An associate professor of neurology and pathology and director of neuropathology at Boston University, Dr. McKee will be discussing some of the latest research and findings concerning CTE, a degenerative disease commonly found in football players with a history of concussions or head trauma. The research on CTE is very new and physicians will learn of the evidence that links sports-related brain injury to repeated head trauma.
Main conference objectives to be discussed through lectures and case studies will include: defining the medical and surgical management of acute traumatic brain injury, identifying the neurological effects from repetitive sports concussions and the risk factors for some athletes, defining the key pathological features of CTE and long-term effects of traumatic brain injury.
