At Advocate Christ Medical Center, volunteers perform a vital role on the health care team. Each year, more than 500 volunteers contribute over 60,000 hours of service to the medical center. Their selfless dedication of time and talent makes a significant contribution to the quality of care provided to patients and guests alike.

We welcome all volunteers age 14 and older and we ask for a minimum commitment of four hours per week for one year. In addition, we offer a special 32-hour service program for students.

Upon receipt of your application, we will be contacting you within five business days to set up your interview.

All volunteers are required to complete a health assessment form that will be given to you at the time of your interview. The employee health department will also administer a TB test; there will be no charge to the applicants.

After your interview, you will be invited to an orientation that acquaints you with the medical center’s important policies and procedures. When this brief process is completed, you will be ready to begin volunteering at Christ Medical Center.

Volunteers play an important role in achieving Advocate Christ Medical Center’s mission to provide quality, personalized health care with compassion and respect. When a volunteer delivers flowers or mail, visits with a patient, or offers a smile and kind word to a family member, he or she helps to brighten someone’s day. That’s important to our patients, and it’s important to us.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and include teen-agers, college students, business executives, homemakers and retirees. As a member of our health care team, volunteers enjoy a variety of benefits, such as learning new skills, making new friends and enjoying the personal fulfillment that comes from helping others.

In an effort to place volunteers in positions best-suited to their interests, abilities and experience, interviews are conducted to learn more about each individual’s skills and talents. Once placed, volunteers are trained by staff in the assigned department.
