Oak Lawn, Ill. — A roster of physicians nominated by their peers as being among the best in their specialties in the nation includes 94 doctors from Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital, according to an announcement today (July 26) by U.S. News Media Group.
Four of the medical center's physicians - neuroradiologist, Thomas Grobelny MD; pediatric heart surgeon, Michel Ilbawi MD; and pediatric hematologists-oncologists, Ammar Hayani MD and Sharad Salvi MD - are ranked among the nation's top 1 percent in their fields.
"To have 94 of our physicians ranked nationally - nearly 9 percent of the 1,100 physicians on the medical staff here - is truly an honor and attests to why our medical center is consistently rated among the leading hospitals in the country for level of professional expertise and quality health outcomes," said Robert Stein MD, vice president, medical management, at Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital. "Even more impressive: four of our physicians rate in the upper 1 percent of professionals in the country."
William Adair MD, interim vice president for clinical transformation at the medical center, agreed. "The selection of such a large number of our medical staff to the Top Doctors list is a phenomenal recognition of what our physicians have achieved and what they continue to achieve every day in providing quality, compassionate care to our patients," he said.
Release of the Top Doctors' list follows last week's announced U.S. News and World Report hospital rankings, in which Christ Medical Center was rated a high performing hospital in cardiology and heart surgery, cancer, neurology and neurosurgery, bone and joint care and seven other specialties in the Chicago metropolitan region. The medical center also was ranked eighth overall among an estimated 120 Chicago area hospitals.

U.S. News Top Doctors is a free, searchable directory available at www.usnews.com/top-doctors. It was created in collaboration between U.S. News Media Group and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd and includes the names of nearly 30,000 peer-nominated physicians from throughout the country. Castle Connolly is publisher of America's Top Doctors and other consumer health guides.
Castle Connolly assembled the roster of Top Doctors by soliciting online nominations from physicians in academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, regional hospitals and private practice from all geographic areas in the country. A Castle Connolly research team reviewed each nominee's training, achievements and appointments, among other credentials, before including that professional on the roster of Top Doctors.
