Take a 3-D Tour Through a Clogged Artery; Exhibit June 24 at Advocate Christ Medical Center
Oak Lawn, Ill. (June 18, 2009) —
A clogged artery is not a pretty sight. Ask anyone who has taken a ride through the “Artery Explorer,” a motion simulator capsule that will be available to the general public at Advocate Christ Medical Center/Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, June 24.
The freestanding exhibit, sponsored by AstraZeneca, whisks participants on a three-dimensional ride through a capsule designed as an artery that has been affected by atherosclerosis, a disease in which plaque builds up and hardens on the inside of arteries.
To be located near the entrance to Christ Medical Center’s Imaging Center on Kilbourn Avenue near 93rd Street in Oak Lawn, the exhibit is just one of a variety of activities planned by the medical center’s Heart and Vascular Institute as part of the campus’ Atherosclerosis Awareness and Screening Event. The program is designed to raise public awareness about atherosclerosis and its role in causing strokes and heart disease.
In addition to the “Artery Explorer,” which will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., other planned activities include an interactive health fair where medical center health professionals will be available to answer questions about heart and vascular disorders; free, basic health screenings; and more comprehensive cholesterol and diabetes screenings available by appointment at a cost of $24. Both the fair and the screenings will take place in the morning only – 9 a.m. to noon.
More information, including registration for cholesterol and diabetes screening, is available by calling the Advocate HealthAdvisor at 1-800-323-8622.
