Joy Not Simply in the Award, but in the Mission of Care
Oak Lawn, Illinois — Advocate Christ Medical Center received an enthusiastic ovation when it was recently presented the 2012 Excellence in Patient Care Award by the Studer Group®. However, for medical center leaders and staff, the joy has not been so much in the award itself, but in the recognition that the campus is fulfilling its mission of providing compassionate care, service and healing to its patients.
“We have more than 1,000 physicians and nearly 6,000 associates working together every day to ensure our patients receive the very best in clinical quality and compassionate care. Their amazing passion for excellence and their commitment to our ministry of healing have truly made a difference in the lives of the thousands of patients whom we serve every day,” said Ken Lukhard, president of Christ Medical Center, who accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
The award was presented during the Studer Group’s annual What’s Right in Health Care conference. Studer Group is a national, Florida-based company that works with more than 800 health care organizations in the United States, providing them with coaching and support to enable them to attain and sustain the highest levels of performance in patient care, hospital operations, associate satisfaction and financial outcomes.
“Nothing matters more than providing outstanding patient care,” said Quint Studer, founder of Studer Group. “Whatever changes may reshape our industry in the future, excellence in patient care is the one factor that will hold constant. As a winner, Christ Medical Center has demonstrated its deep commitment to the well-being of its patients. I am proud to work with an organization that is making such a difference.”
The patient care award is just one of a series of national honors that Christ Medical Center has achieved in 2012. Other recognition has included the campus’ selection to Truven Health Analytics’ list of “100 Top Hospitals” and its ranking by U.S. News & World Report as being among the nation’s top hospitals in cardiology/heart surgery, neonatology and geriatric medicine and one of the leading hospitals in the state of Illinois for overall performance, especially in 10 key clinical areas.
