Within the Cancer Institute at Advocate Christ Medical Center, patients benefit from the collaborative knowledge of experts in a range of disciplines-all focused on treating cancer. This multidisciplinary approach offers patients many informed options for treatment, based on their unique disease state, cancer stage, and consideration of quality-of-life factors. On a formal basis, our physicians hold multidisciplinary conferences every week to discuss the best approaches for patients all forms of cancer, including thoracic cancers and breast cancer, as well as how best to apply CyberKnife® and radiation oncology treatments.
Our multidisciplinary experts regularly consult with one another about patients facing other forms of cancer. For patients, this multidisciplinary approach means that the team considers each patient's diagnosis and treatment from all appropriate angles: medical, surgical and radiation oncology, and reconstructive surgery, as well as potential side effects and quality-of-life issues.
Our expertise draws patients who were told at other hospitals that their cancer was "untreatable" or "inoperable." With the newest capabilities such as CyberKnife radiosurgery, da Vinci® robotic surgery, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and endoscopic ultrasound, Advocate Christ Medical Center often can give hope and solutions to patients who have few other places to turn.
