Christ Medical Center features one of the most comprehensive selections of radiation therapy options available. This means that our radiation oncologists can select the most appropriate and effective treatment available anywhere for patients. Our radiation oncology team features medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nurses and a dietician.

Available treatments include:

  • 3-D Conformal Treatment Planning: Using CT images, physicists can reconstruct body parts and customize treatment angles to spare healthy tissue.
  • Intensity Modulated Radio Therapy: One step beyond 3-D conformal treatment planning, this technology involves inverse treatment planning to break the radiation beam into numerous beamlettes. Exact locations of the tumor and healthy structures are used by the computer to determine the intensity of each individual beamlette, sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.
  • Brachytherapy: Radioactive isotopes are implanted near the tumor site, providing targeted doses of radiation. This therapy is effective in treating prostate, cervical and head and neck cancers.
  • Radio-Immunotherapy: A targeted treatment for conditions such as non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, involving a radioactive isotope attached to an antibody that bonds with a tumor-specific antigen and kills it as well as the area around it to prevent tumor cell growth.
  • Chemoembolization: A highly concentrated chemotherapy agent is injected into the arteries feeding the tumor. The arteries are then occluded to prevent the agent from flowing out.
  • Ytrium 90 Spheres: In this procedure, radioactive microspheres are injected into the vessel feeding primary and metastatic tumors of the liver.
