The nationally recognized team at Advocate Christ Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute bring an interdisciplinary approach to treating all facets of cardiac care. They routinely publish in prestigious medical journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, and help to write national guidelines for heart care.

 

Geetha Bhat, Ph.D., M.D., F.A.C.C.

Co-leading our Center for Heart Transplant and Assist Devices is nationally renowned transplant cardiologist, Geetha Bhat. Dr. Bhat brings her vast experience, having developed other cardiac transplant programs across the country. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati Medical School and is board certified in cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Bhat completed her residency training at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and served a fellowship in both cardiology and bio-organic chemistry at the University of Cincinnati. She also served fellowships at the American College of Cardiology and the Council on Clinical Cardiology. 


Mike Bresticker, M.D.

Co-leading our Center for Heart Transplant and Assist Devices is renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, Mike Bresticker M.D. Dr. Bresticker brings his considerable transplant surgery experience from some of the busiest organ transplant programs in the country. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and is board certified in thoracic and general surgery. Dr. Bresticker completed his residency training at Northwestern University Medical School and served fellowships with the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has published numerous articles, presentations and abstracts on transplantation. Dr. Bresticker is a member of the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. 


Thomas Bump, M.D.

A leader in Advocate Christ Medical Center's electrophysiology program, Dr. Bump is board certified in cardiac electrophysiology. He graduated from Harvard Medical College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed an internship and his residency training at Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Dr. Bump also served a cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago. His clinical interests include cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and internal medicine.

Alex Javois, M.D.

Dr. Javois leads the congenital heart disease program within Advocate Christ Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute. A graduate of Northwestern University Medical School, Dr. Javois completed an internship at St. Louis Children's Hospital and his residency training at Washington University, both in St. Louis, Missouri. He served a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Christ Medical Center. Dr. Javois' clinical interests include pediatric cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology studies.

Sudha Kurien, A.P.R.N., M.S.N., B.C.-A.N.P.

Sudah Kurien is a board certified adult nurse practitioner with more than 12 years of nursing experience. She received her training at Kent State University. Kurien is the ventricular assist device and heart transplant coordinator at Christ Medical Center. She has published several articles and abstracts and is a member of the Heart Failure Society of America and the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation.

 


Thomas Levin, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I.

A leader within the peripheral vascular services program at the Heart and Vascular Institute, Dr. Levin is a board certified cardiologist and interventional cardiologist. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri Medical School. Dr. Levin completed his residency training and served a fellowship at the University of Chicago. His clinical interests include cardiovascular medicine and interventional treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Heather Longin, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Longin is a board certified cardiologist. She received her medical degree frome Michigan State University and completed her residency training at Northwestern University. Dr. Longin served fellowships in cardiology at Henry Ford Hospital. Her clinical interests include the treatment and management of acute coronary disease.

Michele Martin, A.P.R.N., B.C.-C.N.S.

Michele Martin is a board certified clinical nurse specialist. She received her training at the Loyola University in Chicago. Martin is the Heart Transplant/Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator at Christ Medical Center and her more than 18 years of experience in the transplant field has been a major contribution to the transplantation and mechanical assist devices program. She a member of the International Consortium of Circulatory Assist Clinicians (ICCAC), the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization (NATCO).



Pat Pappas, M.D.

One of the leading cardiac surgeons in the region, Dr. Pappas is the director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Advocate Christ Medical Center, and he oversees the state-of-the-art intensive care unit designed specifically for open-heart surgery patients. Dr. Pappas graduated from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University medical school and completed his residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Dr. Pappas is a board certified cardio-thoracic surgeon. His clinical interests include surgeries of the aorta, robotic valve repairs and complex heart surgery.

Carol Pisano, B.S.N.

Carol Pisano is a board certified critical care nurse with 30 years of nursing experience. She received her training at the University of Illinois. Pisano is the manager of the Heart Failure Clinic at Christ Medical Center where she created and developed the heart failure continuum of care initiatives, including the outpatient clinic in 1995. She has published several articles and abstracts and is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, American Association of Heart Failure Nurses, and Heart Failure Society of America.



Laura Rosner, R.N., B.S.N., B.S.

Laura Rosner is a board certified nurse with 23 years of nursing experience at Advocate Christ Medical Center. She received her training at St. Xavier University. Rosner is the clinical operations assistant in the cardiac pulmonary rehabilitation program at Christ Medical Center. Her special interests include cardiac rehabilitation and cardiology.

 

 

Marc Silver, M.D.

Dr. Silver is the director of the Heart Failure Clinic at Advocate Christ Medical Center. A graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Silver is a board certified cardiologist. He completed both his internship and residency training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Silver served fellowships at the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center. His clinical interests include cardiothoracic surgery and general surgery.

Paul Silverman, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Silverman is a physician leader in the cardiac catheterization lab and interventions program at Christ Medical Center and a board certified cardiologist and intervention cardiologist. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Chicago Medical School, where he also completed his residency training. Dr. Silverman served fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Loyola University Medical School. His clinical interests include interventional cardiology and the treatment and management of acute coronary disease.

Antone Tatooles, M.D.

Dr. Tatooles is a key member of the open heart surgery program at Christ Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute. Board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Tatooles is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois, where he also completed his residency training. Dr. Tatooles served a fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard University. His clinical interests include minimally invasive approaches to heart surgery, robotic techniques, aortic surgery, valve surgery, and mechanical assist devices.

Geri Tansey, A.P.N., A.P.R.N.

Geri Tansey is a board certified advanced practice nurse. She received her training at St. Xavier University in Chicago. Tansey is a Clinical Nurse Specialist for adult cardiac surgery patients at Christ Medical Center with more than 24 years of nursing experience. She has published several articles and participated in numerous research projects, and she is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

 
 

Allan Zelinger, M.D.

Dr. Zelinger is the director of the cardiodiagnostics laboratory and co-director of the coronary angiography unit at Christ Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute. A board certified cardiologist, he received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Zelinger completed his residency training and internship at Rush-Presbyterian St Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He served fellowships at both Boston University and Boston City College. Dr. Zelinger's clinical interests include cardiology and internal medicine.
