How prevalent is endometrial cancer?
Endometrial cancer is the most common of all reproductive cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, a woman's lifetime chance of getting endometrial cancer is 1 in 41.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of endometrial cancer include:
- Bleeding or unusual vaginal discharge
- Difficulty urinating
- Pain when urinating
- Pain during intercourse
- Pain in the pelvic area
Can endometrial cancer be detected early?
There is no routine screening for women at normal risk for endometrial cancer, so it's important to talk with your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms.
What are the risk factors?
- Age over 50
- Race (Caucasian women also have a higher risk of developing uterine cancers than women of other races.)
- Post-menopause
- Prolonged used of estrogen-based hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Tamoxifen usage
If any medical treatments are ordered by my doctor, will my insurance cover them?
Depending on the type of coverage, most commercial insurance carriers will pay the major share of the cost. You should always consult your insurance company to determine proper coverage.
