When it comes to brain and spine cancers, adult and pediatric patients benefit from Advocate Christ Medical Center's advanced diagnostic techniques and technologies. Our physicians work closely with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgical oncologists at Christ Medical Center's Cancer Institute to coordinate the very best care for patients.
Latest Diagnostics and Treatments
Our imaging department features more than twenty-five board-certified radiologists and sophisticated imaging technologies such as 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanners and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Medical oncologists and radiation oncologists at Christ Medical Center have access to the most effective treatments available anywhere for their patients:
- CyberKnife® Radiosurgery System: CyberKnife® delivers stereotactic radiosurgery with sub-millimeter accuracy to treat both spine and brain tumors. This highly advanced technology offers another option for patients whose cancers are considered "inoperable" by standard means.
- Intensity Modulated Radio Therapy: One step beyond 3-D conformal treatment planning, this technology involves inverse treatment planning to break the radiation beam into numerous beamlettes. Exact locations of the tumor and healthy structures are used by the computer to determine the intensity for each individual beamlette, sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.
- Full-Service Outpatient Infusion Center: For patients requiring infusion therapy, our Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center combines a patient-friendly environment with highly qualified staff. Our large, comfortable rooms feature natural lighting and accommodate up to 30 patients per day.
Wide Range of Supportive Services
Patients diagnosed with cancer face numerous challenges. At Christ Medical Center, we offer a wide range of support services that can ease the burden of those challenges. A specially trained oncology nutritionist sees patients in the hospital and those undergoing outpatient treatment. Our palliative care team works closely with physicians and patients to provide comfort, communication assistance and assess patients' physical needs to enhance their quality of life at any stage of illness. Our oncology-trained social workers, chaplain and dedicated oncology pharmacists assist the care team in providing the most comprehensive care available to patients and their families.
Dedicated Pediatric Center
Located on Advocate Christ Medical Center's campus, the Keyser Family Pediatric Cancer Center offers specialized care to young patients with brain and spine cancers. Our exceptional team of pediatric hematologists and oncologists, radiation oncologists, pediatric surgeons, dedicated nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, child life therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, chaplains and a schoolteacher work together to address all aspects of care.
