Before turning to surgery, specialists at Advocate Christ Medical Center's Bone and Joint Institute exhaust all non-surgical care options. We consistently meet or exceed national averages for non-surgical care guidelines, whether patients are receiving anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections or physical therapy techniques.
Nationally Recognized Physical Therapy Program
One of the most important steps in the orthopedic recovery process is physical rehabilitation. Christ Medical Center is home to a nationally recognized Center for Physical Rehabilitation accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Physical therapists conduct individual assessments to create treatment plans that help patients regain mobility and strength as soon as possible. At the same time, we teach techniques to prevent reinjury. Specialized services, such as the Spinal Cord Exercise Group, are designed to meet the unique needs of patients with specific injuries and conditions.
Hand and Occupational Therapy Services
Patients recovering from hand and upper arm surgeries have access to our occupational and hand therapy services. Experienced occupational therapists work one-on-one with patients to help them regain the use of their hands and upper extremities.
