Advocate Christ Medical Center is one of a few centers in Chicagoland to offer a dedicated staff of oral and maxillofacial surgeons to address virtually any condition or trauma to the oral cavity and facial bones. We register higher volumes of patients than any other local facility and work closely with referring dentists and orthodontists to ensure continuity of care.
Comprehensive Array of Treatments
Surgeons perform orthognathic surgery on patients requiring facial bone repositioning as a result of trauma, cancer or skeletal discrepancies in the upper and lower facial bones. We also offer TMJ surgery to patients using arthroscopy in conjunction with holmium laser technology.
Our oral and maxillofacial surgeons partner with referring dentists to perform a number of pre-prosthetic implant surgeries where the implants are positioned in anticipation of dentures or fixed bridge work in the mouth.
Screening for Cardiac and Cancer Patients
Our oral and maxillofacial surgeons screen candidates for ventricular assist device therapy and cardiac transplant to determine if any teeth should be removed before undergoing either procedure. This prevents the spread of disease from the teeth to the heart, which can significantly jeopardize the outcome of cardiac surgeries.
For patients diagnosed with cancer, surgeons may remove infected teeth before radiation therapies to prevent a life-threatening side effect of radiation treatment where the teeth or jaw develop an abscess.
