How prevalent is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer among men in the U.S.
What are the symptoms?
Early symptoms of prostate cancer may be unnoticeable. Some men experience urinary problems (difficulty urinating, the need to urinate more frequently, pain or burning when urinating), blood in the urine or semen, difficulty having an erection, or frequent pain in the lower back, hips or upper thigh.
Can prostate cancer be detected early?
Prostate cancer can be detected early through regular screenings. Men over 50 should be screened annually.
What are the risk factors?
- Age over 65
- Race (African-American men are at greater risk than Caucasian, Hispanic or Asian-American men)
- Family history of prostate cancer
- Diet high in animal fats
If any medical treatments are ordered by my doctor, will my insurance cover them?
Depending on the type of coverage, most commercial insurance carriers will pay the major share of the cost. You should always consult your insurance company to determine proper coverage.
