Rehabilitation nursing helps patients with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses adapt to their disabilities and achieve their greatest potential. We provide 24-hour rehabilitation nursing to patients admitted to our inpatient rehabilitation unit. The role of the rehabilitation nurse includes teacher, caregiver, team member and patient advocate. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the rehabilitation nurse promotes wellness by reinforcing activities learned in therapy, monitoring the patient's medication regime and staying abreast of any medical needs. The rehabilitation nurse collaborates with other specialties involving rehabilitation or medical issues. Ongoing education is provided to the patient and family/caregiver. The nurse assists with developing a plan of care along with the patient to establish goals that should be achieved during the hospital stay.
