Lymphedema Prevention and Treatment Program Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid that causes swelling in the arms, legs or less commonly in other areas of the body. Lymphedema can develop when the lymphatic systems is impaired due to disease, infection or trauma. It can also occur as a result of cancer treatments that involve radiation or removal of lymph nodes. Individuals at risk for developing this painful condition include those who have been treated for the following cancers:

Treatment Phase One: Phase one focuses on reducing swelling. Daily one- to two-hour sessions include:
Phase Two: The goal of phase two is to stabilize and maintain the reduction of swelling. During this phase of treatment, patients are fitted for compression garments and continue therapy once or twice a week. Once stabilized, patients receive bi-annual check-ups to ensure ongoing success and optimal results. The length of the program varies. An individual's success in the program depends upon their participation and compliance with treatment between appointments Enrollment Lymphedema treatment is covered by most insurance companies.
