Osteoporosis and Bone Density Screening
In the United States alone, there are more than 23 million women who have or are at risk of developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones gradually become more brittle and more susceptible to fractures. Osteoporosis is called the "silent disease" because bone loss occurs without symptoms. If detected, it can be treated.
A bone density test can detect osteoporosis, predict your risk of fracture and monitor effects of treatment. Bone density testing is available at Advocate Christ Medical Center in the Breast Health Center and at High Tech Medical Park in Palos Heights.
To undergo a bone density screening exam to determine your risk for osteoporosis, ask your doctor for an order. Then call to schedule an appointment at the Breast Health Center, 708-684-1000, or High Tech Medical Park, 708-361-0220.
