Gynecologic Minimally Invasive Surgery Christ Medical Center is one of the first medical centers in the area to offer new ways to treat abnormal bleeding and pain in about 75 percent of women without performing a hysterectomy. When appropriate, a physician may recommend endometrial ablation, a minimally invasive procedure in which physicians insert a device similar to a heated balloon through the vagina to cauterize the lining of the uterus. Performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia, the procedure is less invasive, usually allowing women to return home the same day. At Christ Medical Center, physicians perform minimally invasive abdominal surgery. Laparoscopy enables them to remove cysts and tumors from the ovaries, and benign tumors and fibroids from inside the uterus, and treat tubal pregnancies and endometriosis. Laparoscopic procedures are much easier for patients than major abdominal surgery, usually resulting in a much shorter hospital stay and allowing patients to resume normal activities much more quickly. For a physician referral, search the Doctor's Directory or call 1.800.3.ADVOCATE (1.800.323.8622). |
