DEXA is fast, convenient and precise way to measure bone density to evaluate bone mass and monitor response to therapy.

To schedule an appointment, call Centralized Scheduling at 847.990.5000. A physician's order required.

During the Exam:

You will be asked to lie on a special table while the information and images are taken. The procedure is similar to having abdominal x-ray. The exam is very quick, taking only fifteen minutes to complete.

After the Exam:

When the exam is finished the technologist will assist you off the table. The images will be interpreted by a radiologist and a final report will be sent to your physician within 24 hours from the time you were examined.

The report will contain your bone density measurements, a comparison of your results against an extensive database of young, normal bone density values, a comparison of your results against a database of other patients your age and sex, and recommendations for treatment or prevention.
