An esophageal manometry is a procedure used to identify how the esophageal muscles contract. This is done by inserting a thin catheter (tube) through the nose and positioning it in the esophagus. This test is used to aid in the diagnosis and evaluation of chest pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other motility disorders such as swallowing disorders.
