“It’s completely healed…”
Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March 2011, Beverly Watral faced an uphill battle and an uncertain future. The 66-year-old retiree from Kenosha, Wisconsin underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissues and was hospitalized for nearly a month afterward.
During her recovery at home, Beverly developed a hematoma at the surgery site. The condition is a type of blood clot that compromises the wound and complicates and delays healing.
The wound continued to deteriorate and eventually started bleeding. Watral was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she was treated in the emergency room.

“I’m a happy guy…”
After years of painful struggle with wounds that would not heal, Gernot Gruber finally found the healing he hoped for. The 71-year-old retired business owner from Wauconda was successfully treated at the Wound Care Center at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The ordeal started about seven years ago when Gruber was vacationing in Hawaii. A diabetic, Gruber developed calluses on the bottom of his right foot. He had lived with those calluses for a number of years but now they opened up into serious wounds and became infected.
