Emergencies are often unexpected. Yet at some time in our lives, you, your child, parent, or other family member will need immediate care. We suggest you have a few essentials organized well in advance, just in case.
Here are the most important items:
- Name and phone number of your primary care physician
- Identification and your insurance card, including any information about precertification requirements or coverage limitations
- A complete list of your medications, including the drug name(s), how much you're taking and how often
- A list of any over-the-counter remedies such as pain relievers, vitamins, or supplements you are taking
- Your next few doses of medication
- List of your allergies or chronic medical ailments
- Special medical equipment necessary for your comfort
- A friend or family member who can help interpret or provide additional information about your history or illness
