In 2012, Advocate demonstrated progress in its efforts to be ‘true stewards of the environment’ in many ways.
2012 Sustainable Operations Results:

14.5 percent cumulative reduction in energy consumption since 2008

30 percent reduction in medical waste volume since 2010

73 percent of major construction and demolition debris recycled

27 percent of paper, glass, plastic and cans recycled

34 percent increase in medical device reprocessing and related waste reduction
2013 Goals

Reduce energy consumption by 2 percent (over the 2012 baseline) in support of a multi-year goal to reduce energy by 20 percent by the end of 2015

Reduce total solid waste from landfill by 500,000 pounds over the 2012 baseline

Reduce medical waste across the system to 1.65 pounds per adjusted patient day

Reduce paper consumption by 10 percent over the 2010 baseline

Recycle at least 30 percent of paper, glass, plastic and aluminum waste
Environmental Stewardship Awards
Advocate Health Care recently honored 21 associates and physicians with the second annual Environmental Stewardship Awards. These individuals were recognized at a special event near America Recycles Day for being true stewards of our environment.
