Last year, the Advocate Research and Innovation Forum 2012 was a success, with over 500 attendees, and 160 posters summarizing scholarly works including case reports, case series, quality, safety, clinical trials, and population studies. We in the Department of Research are proud of the accomplishments of the Investigators for their insight and quest for knowledge. We also thank the Hospitals, Departments, Programs and all Advocate physicians, nurses and associates that directly or indirectly support the amazing research endeavors within Advocate. As we continue to focus on research we serve our patients by not only practicing Evidence Based Medicine, but creating it.
In continuing the recognition of these endeavors The Department of Research is proud to announce The Advocate Research and Innovation Forum 2013. The forum will continue as an opportunity for all Advocate affiliated physicians, nurses and associates to present the research that they have conducted over the last year, as well as share ideas for future research projects. Akin to last year, it will be a collegial setting where sharing and discussion occurs within and between a host of disciplines.
Forum Dates and Locations:
Lutheran General Hospital: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 - Grainger Atrium / Olson Auditorium
From Design to Dissemination
Let Michael Berbaum, PhD, and Karl Keller, MBA, give you the tools and tips to design and write a successful research protocol / grant and how to bring it full circle to manuscript development.
Dr Berbaum will coach you on how best to prepare to work with and maximize your partnership with a research coordinator to prepare a well designed protocol or grant. He will highlight the tools you need to address study design, sample size calculation, statistical plans, and procedures.
Karl Keller will follow Dr. Berbaum and examine the key principles successful researchers use to write grants. He will demonstrate these key principles using actual winning grants, including examples with biostatistics. He will reveal the 5 most important techniques for writing paragraphs and sentences that clearly communicate complex medical information and discuss relevant agencies to request funding that matches our clinical environment in today’s competitive grant marketplace.
