Medical Staff Scholarship Award

Each year, the medical staff of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital awards academic scholarships to high school seniors who reside in or attend high school in the Good Samaritan Hospital community.

Interested students must intend to pursue a degree in a health care-related field such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical/occupational therapy, radiology, etc.

Scholarships are awarded annually in the amount of $1,000. Scholarships are payable to the school and may be used for tuition, housing, books, or fees. In 2007, ten scholarships were awarded to high school seniors from the following schools: Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Lisle, Montini Catholic and Benet Academy.

Application Criteria:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a four point scale, or 4.25 on a five point scale
• Be accepted into and plan to attend an accredited two or four year college, university, or technical school

Recipients may re-apply annually for three additional years. To do so, they must continue their education in a health care-related major and maintain the aforementioned GPA requirement. Students must also continue to exemplify the sound moral and ethical character that originally earned them the award.

High School Applicants:
The application for high school students includes the application and recommendation forms. To apply, fill out the forms online, then print and mail them with the completed application packet.

Completed application packet:

• Application form
• Recommendation form
• Transcript of grades
• Letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or counselor
• A short personal statement reflecting the student's interests, qualifications, and reasons for choosing a health care career

All application materials are due by May 1, 2008, and applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision in June.
