The Auxiliary of Good Samaritan Hospital first began when a group of DuPage County residents formed the Downers Grove Hospital Association. The original objective of the group was to assure that adequate medical facilities would be provided for an expanding population. In early 1969, the Hospital Association undertook the hospital project and were able to gain support from local communities, the medical society in the county, neighboring hospitals and other local groups. This group and its supporters were able to plan what is now Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital as we know it today.
Realizing how effective the aid of the Auxiliary was, June Grotefeld, a determined worker of Advocate Christ Medical Center, was appointed by the Association to recruit more women from the service area of Good Samaritan Hospital and the first meeting was held in October 1972.
In the 40 years since its inception, the Auxiliary has donated an exemplary amount of proceeds to the hospital totally more than $7.6 million. The funds that the Auxiliary has donated to the hospital helps cover the costs of projects throughout the entire hospital.
