For more than 23 years, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital's open heart surgery program has served the community with excellence and compassion. Our program is consistently given a three star quality rating by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. This is the highest honor possible and only given to the top 10% of all open heart surgery programs nationally.
The Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, John Grieco, M.D., understands that heart issues don't just happen Monday through Friday. The cardiothoracic surgery team is prepared for emergencies day or night with the same quality, compassion and professional excellence that you and your loved one deserve.
After your surgery, cardiothoracic surgeons and highly trained nurses carefully monitor your progress and continue care for you throughout your stay. We also understand good follow-up care and participation in cardiac rehabilitation are important components toward a heart patient's smooth recovery.
Surgical Heart Unit
On the first day after surgery, all open heart patients receive one-on-one nursing care from specially trained nurses. Our surgical heart nurses understand that while they are caring for you or your loved one during this critical phase, the family is also vitally important. For this reason the recently built, state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit has all private rooms and a large family waiting area for extended family to gather. Flexible visiting hours ensure that you never need to be far from your loved one. |
