Prostate Cancer

Men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer have a wide variety of options, from watchful waiting to hormonal therapy to more definitive treatments such as surgery or radiation therapy. The Cancer Care Center and the Good Samaritan physicians can help men become better educated about these options so they and their families can make informed decisions.

External Beam Radiation
The Cancer Care Center offers state-of-the-art radiation equipment with the latest technological advances in external beam therapy, including 3D conformal therapy and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy). Both techniques allow higher radiation doses to be delivered to the prostate and less to surrounding normal areas, including the bowel and bladder. Our treatment team is able to ultrasound the prostate daily to ensure precise targeting of radiation to the treatment area.

Brachytherapy
The physicians at the Cancer Care Center have extensive experience with brachytherapy (or radioactive seed implants) for prostate cancer and have a collective experience of over one thousand patients treated.

Clinical Research
The Cancer Care Center participates in national prostate cancer clinical trials that are available to patients who qualify. These clinical trials offer the latest advances in treatment and typically involve radiation therapy, hormones and/or chemotherapy.

Support Services
Our caring and compassionate staff is a valuable resource for patients and their families. A monthly prostate cancer support group is offered in the Cancer Care Center for men and their partners. A patient education center with internet access to prostate and other cancer websites is available to help you and your family learn more about cancer. The Good Samaritan Wellness Center offers a Cancer Wellness program of exercise, relaxation, stress management and endurance to help patients stay healthy before, during and after their cancer treatments.
