Support Groups and Information
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital provides a broad spectrum of services to meet the needs of our patients throughout their diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Patient Resource Center
The American Cancer Society (ACS) and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital jointly sponsor the Patient Resource Center at the Cancer Care Center. The Resource Center has patient education materials on a wide range of cancer-related topics, as well as a computer with internet access for additional research. The Patient Services Coordinator for ACS staffs the room every Wednesday morning and provides information about ACS programs and services, including one-on-one support from a cancer survivor, free wigs through the Wig Boutique, and free rides to treatment from Road to Recovery. ACS also has a clinical trial matching service, a health insurance assistance program, and access to medical equipment providers.
Lymphedema Prevention and Treatment Program
The Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Department at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital provides education and treatment, as well as a quarterly support group. Contact us at 630-275-2600 for information.
Look Good…Feel Better®:
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital partners with the American Cancer Society in offering this free, non-medical program that teaches beauty techniques to women with cancer, to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Trained, volunteer cosmetologists teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair loss using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. Women also learn ways to disguise hair loss with wigs, scarves and other accessories. For information and to register, please call Tracey at Good Samaritan Hospital, at 630-275-2378.
