Innovative Treatment

Board-certified physicians specialize in medical oncology and hematology, surgery and radiation oncology. We also provide a Cancer Care Liaison, to guide patients through their treatment, answering questions and coordinating appointments, so the process is personal, easier to navigate and more comfortable.

The Cancer Care Center participates in an array of clinical trials, helping discover and evaluate new therapies to prevent and treat cancer, so experts are aware of the latest research and treatment options.

Medical Oncology and Hematology

Board certified specialists in oncology and hematology provide cancer care at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.Throughout treatment, and when palliative care is appropriate, we provide innovative, compassionate care for both hospitalized patients and outpatients.

This high level of professional care extends to our nursing staff. Dedicated nurses are certified in chemotherapy administration, and a number of nurses are nationally certified in oncology nursing. Working closely with oncologists and hematologists, they help promote our integrated approach to your treatment.

Chemo-Embolization is a specialized procedure to deliver chemotherapy via microcatheters into select arteries that solely supply tumors, which can lead to fewer side effects. It typically is used to treat cancer in the liver.

Frequently asked questions about chemotherapy.

Surgery

Surgical teams perform more than 8,500 surgeries each year. For various types of cancer, and tumors in certain locations, surgery is the optimal treatment. Surgeons use both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, and base the type of surgery on tumor size and location, and a patient’s health and preference. In certain instances, surgery is then followed by chemotherapy and/or radiation. Our new surgical pavilion provides the latest technologies in a state-of-the-art facility.

Clinical Trials and Research

Clinical research studies may offer treatment opportunities not available with traditional oncology care. Many clinical trials for chemotherapy and radiation therapy are available through physician affiliations with national study groups. Interested patients should discuss this option with their physician.

Genetic Counseling

Some cancers can be hereditary. Oncology genetics counseling is available through Good Samaritan Hospital to help determine:

  • Whether one’s cancer could be caused by a genetic abnormality
  • Potential interventions that may be appropriate
  • Implications for family members
