Computed Tomography (CT Scan)

A Computed Tomography (CT) scan is a non-invasive, painless medical test that uses advanced X-ray technology to provide detailed cross-sectional views and images of the body, including the heart and the blood vessels. In addition, muscles, bones, lungs and internal organs can be seen in greater detail than using traditional X-ray exams.

Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) is also available at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. CTA is an examination that uses X-rays combined with computerized analysis to visualize arteries and veins throughout the body. Compared to traditional angiography, which involves placing a catheter and injecting contrast material into a large artery or vein, CTA is a less invasive procedure. Contrast material is injected into a peripheral vein by using a small needle or catheter.

After your CT exam, a radiologist - a physician specifically trained to supervise and interpret radiology exams, will analyze your images and communicate the results with your physician. Each year, we perform more then 38,000 CT procedures.
