What is interventional radiology?
Interventional radiology is a medical specialty in which radiologists use imaging technology to diagnose and treat certain conditions. Physicians use the images as a guide in positioning instruments for biopsies, catheterizations, and stenting.
When is interventional radiology used?
Interventional radiology can be an alternative to surgery for certain patients with specific conditions. interventional procedures such as kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty can be used to help relieve pain from spinal fractures commonly caused by osteoporosis or other injuries. Uterine Artery Embolization is a procedure to treat uterine fibroids without traditional hysterectomy.
General Angiography
General angiography is a diagnostic and treatment procedure that uses image-guided technology and only very small incisions through which a tiny catheter is threaded. It is often an alternative to major surgery.
