In 2007, the Center for Cancer Care joined the list of the nation’s best cancer centers as ranked by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC) after having earned its highest cancer care performance rating, “Approval with Commendation,” following a rigorous on-site performance evaluation. Only one in four cancer programs at hospitals across the United States receives this approval.
Cancer care at Good Shepherd Hospital has been CoC-approved since 1985, and in 2004 received the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award signifying commendations in all six evaluation areas: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.
This approval means that our patients have access to:
- comprehensive care, including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment
- a multi-specialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
- information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
- cancer-related information, education and support
- a cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treament results and offers lifelong patient follow-up
- ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
And, most importantly,
- Quality care close to home
