Prevention, Early Detection and Screening The best, most effective strategy for treating for cancer is to prevent it. However, since cancer is not always preventable, early detection in many cases can lead to successful cures. Throughout the year, in association with the American Cancer Society and many other public health groups, Good Shepherd Hospital sponsors screenings and promotional programs aimed at prevention and early detection of cancer. In addition, physicians and dedicated clinical staff frequently present educational lectures and programs on a variety of health related topics. The links below provide early-warning signs, screening guidelines and prevention strategies for many of the most common types of cancer. Early Warning Signs - Early detection is essential for improved survival for patients with cancer. Screenings - Learn about cancer screening guidelines recommended for certain cancer sites. Prevention and Early Detection - Learn about suggested prevention and early detection strategies. |
