To Better Serve Our Emergency Patients and our Community Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is pleased to announce the opening our new Emergency Department! With the doors scheduled to open in early April, the new ED will provide expanded care areas to serve our growing community in a caring and family centered environment.
What's New? The new 32,000 square foot Emergency Department will increase and enlarge the number of treatment bays to accommodate the growing number of patients. The project also includes a new registration area, general radiology area, separate waiting area, nurse’s station and general treatment area for minor care/fast track-patients, offices for Emergency Medical Services personnel and ED administration and an area reserved for staff education. This project was made possible in part through the philanthropy of Good Shepherd's generous community and Advocate Health Care.
Level II Trauma Center In an emergency, you can count on Good Shepherd Hospital to respond quickly and with the appropriate treatment. Good Shepherd has been designated a Level II Trauma Center a designation that means we provide emergency and trauma care for serious injuries 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Emergency Department is staffed by physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine. Many of Good Shepherd Hospital’s emergency physicians have earned additional certifications in pediatric, internal or family medicine. Specially-trained registered nurses work with physicians and emergency medical technicians to provide the most immediate, appropriate care.
Fast Track For less serious illness and injuries, Good Shepherd has rejuvenated their Fast Track for minor care-an area of our Emergency Department dedicated to providing efficient, immediate care for patients with minor treatment needs such as stiches. While our Fast Track patients receive the same level of quality, compassionate care as all of our patients, our goal is to have most Fast Track patients treated and on their way home in less than an hour because we know your time is valuable too. For patients needing X-ray services, the Fast Track features a dedicated X-ray suite. Good Shepherd’s Emergency Department is backed and supported by an entire hospital dedicated to helping you get well. That means you’ll have the staff and services of one of the northwest suburbs’ most comprehensive hospitals working for you.
Pediatric Emergency Medicine Good Shepherd Hospital has designed a pediatric emergency services area for pediatric and adolescent patients. The Emergency Department is equipped to care for critically ill or injured patients and is designed specifically for children and has earned the EDAP (Emergency Department Approved Pediatrics) state designation. In addition, a staff of emergency medical professionals is specially trained to care for the special needs of children in an emergency setting. . .something not found at most hospitals.
