Genetic Counseling

Some conditions occur more often in families and can be inherited. These are called genetic disorders. Your physician will help you determine whether genetic counseling is right for you. A genetic counselor can help determine your chance of having a child with a birth defect. In some cases parents can be tested before pregnancy to see if a genetic disorder might be passed to their children. In others testing is completed during pregnancy. Cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, Tay-Sachs disease, Fragile X and others disorders can be identified through genetic testing.
