Our Philosophy
Throughout all levels of care, the philosophy of treatment at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital is an unwavering respect for the world of a child. Every staff member works to minimize children's fear of treatment, to modify the hospitalization experience for maximum comfort, to view the nature of treatment through the eyes of a child. Nurses, medical technicians and aides are specially trained in pediatric care and dedicated to working with children. Staff members speak to children at eye level. Younger patients may be examined and treated while sitting on a parent's lap. A favorite doll or stuffed animal can undergo a mock examination, while the procedure is explained to the child. For children referred to us for specialty care, Hope Children's Hospital maintains a partnership philosophy with the child's regular physician. We are committed to ongoing communication to ensure that the child will benefit from a well-coordinated continuum of care. Our patient-centered focus distinguishes Hope Children's Hospital from other teaching and academic facilities. Treatment of a child is not automatically delegated to a pediatric resident. Instead, patients benefit directly from the experience and expertise of the hospital's faculty of pediatric specialists. Consistent with this philosophy, academics and research are pursued only as a means to delivering superior care. The focus remains on the patient, not on the accolades. |
