The urology division at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital provides surgical services or treatment management for pre- or postnatally detected urinary tract anomalies, intersex cases, neurogenic bladder, urinary tract infections and voiding dysfunction.
The division also co-manages cases with other subspecialists in the coordinated treatment of children with spinal cord injuries or spina bifida. Family teaching is a key component in the management of bedwetting problems, as is consultation with a pediatric psychologist, when behavioral issues are complex or extreme.
Kidney biopsies are performed under ultrasound guidance with conscious sedation. Physicians also participate in a number of clinical trials involving children with hypertension, renal failure, anemia and kidney transplants.
