Advocate Hope Children's Hospital Nurse Achieves 2009 Joyce Woytek Award for Nursing Excellence
Oak Lawn, IL (May 28, 2009) —
A nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit at Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital has achieved the Advocate Christ Medical Center/ Hope Children’s Hospital prestigious 2009 Joyce Woytek Award for Nursing Excellence. She was chosen from a group of 56 nominees for the honor and presented with the award at a recent awards reception, sponsored by the medical center.

Barbara LaBuda RN MSN, who has worked in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for 11 years, is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau, the National Honor Society for Nursing. She was nominated for the Joyce Woytek Award by colleagues, who described her as a nurse who “consistently works to improve patient care, unit operations, [and] development of her peers, [and who provides] assistance to the organization in meeting established goals for excellence.”

LaBuda had no idea that she had been nominated for the award and was surprised to discover that she had won. “I’m still shocked, but very grateful…I get a lot of support from the great people I work with,” said LaBuda.

The Joyce Woytek Award for Nursing Excellence is an honor that recognizes an Advocate Christ Medical Center/Hope Children’s Hospital nurse who demonstrates outstanding commitment to nursing excellence, portrays the mission, values and philosophy of the organization and displays tremendous compassion and grace in the care of patients and fulfillment of other nursing responsibilities. Joyce Woytek was a nurse and former administrative director of the Advocate Christ Medical Center’s emergency department.
